The Mendocino County Museum collects, conserves and celebrates the stories, artifacts, and archives of the people and places in Mendocino County.

The Museum will be a host site for the Out of the Ashes exhibit which will open on Saturday, October 6th.  This community-sourced multimedia art exhibit will focus on documenting the Mendocino County wildfires in October 2017, and the process of rebuilding home, spirit, community, and reflecting our ability to rise from the destruction that was wrought. Visit the Museum for A Poetry Reading at 5:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, October 11th.

Other exhibits on display include a 10,000 year-old Clovis Point, actual storefronts of historic businesses, 19th century stagecoaches and a “new settler” hippie van.  We also have memorabilia from the famous race horse, Seabiscuit. Our Woven Worlds exhibit on Native Peoples of Mendocino County follows a descriptive timeline from Coyote to Casino … from first contact to self-determination.   Near the front of the museum is a Veterans Memorial in honor of the 22 veterans who served in Vietnam.  You’ll also find a gift and book shop inside the museum.
